In reply to: Ed Brazee posted an update in the group Digital Citizenship in Schools FYI, a recent blog post of mine through Bright Futures about digital citizenship. Everyday I read another dozen (or more) references to […] ViewThanks for the reminder, Ed. It does seem hard to fit everything into the busy school day. I think it makes the most sense to address these issues as they apply to student work. For example, my 5th graders were questioning a specific student’s email. I suggested that perhaps they could speak directly to each other since the students in question…[Read more]

In reply to: Laura Richter posted an update in the group Digital Citizenship in Schools This is one of my favorite classes to teach using the Common Sense Media curriculum and tweaking knobs to make it a nice fit. I have tried […] ViewI agree that digital citizenship is part of the plate and that it needs to be started in elementary school. However, I believe it is best done in a collaborative fashion. I was pleased to work with 3rd and 4th grade teachers on the Common Sense program. Since we were part of a pilot program, we taught all the lessons. It was more difficult for…[Read more]

In reply to: Ed Brazee posted an update in the group Digital Citizenship in Schools Thanks, Eileen. I’ve looked at the resources and information that you provide a number of times. Very impressive…to hear your superintendent […] ViewI am not aware of any requests from other schools. It is definitely a work in progress. Digital Citizenship in Schools 1 year, 1 month agoThe Common Sense Media digital citizenship lessons begin in elementary school. A typical objective of one of the lessons is to ” understand how giving credit is a sign of respect for other people’s work.” My students enjoyed discussing the case studies presented. See the link for the specifics…[Read more]

Hi Eileen,
I was thinking of having a student/parent ”digital citizenship” event night. Have you ever done something like this? I imagine it being fun, game show type, prizes, etc. I have nothing planned for this year because it is a daunting task and I am freaking out about it. I am gathering thoughts and ideas from others.
